It's really great that you have decided to follow Jesus.
In order for you to be a strong Christian,
here are some things you should do...
Bible
Study:
- I once heard a story
about a very old and wise Indian. He was asked how he was able to be such
a strong Christian when so many fell away. He replied, "There are two
dogs fighting in-side all the time. Each trying to kill off the other. One
represents the Spirit-Man the other the Flesh-man." When asked who
wins, he replied, "The one I feed."
- Paul told Timothy,
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman
who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of
truth." 2Tim 2:15
- Paul continued to tell
Timothy that, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the
man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Tim
3:16-17
- Jesus Himself said,
"Man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from
the mouth of God." Mat 4:4
- The Psalmist said,
"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against
you." Ps 119:11
Prayer:
- Paul told the
Thessalonians, "pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thess. 5:17-18
- James told the early
church that they should, "pray for each other..." And, "The
prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." James 5:16
- Paul told the Romans,
"be faithful in prayer." In the King James the word faithful is
"instant". This has the sense that we should not be hesitant to
pray. Romans 12:12
- In Revelation it is said
that the prayers of the saints are of such fragrant worth that they are
like incense held in golden bowls. Rev. 5:8
- Peter quoted the
psalmist in saying the ears of the Lord are attentive to our prayers. 1
Pet. 3:12 Ps. 34:1
- Prayer is anytime you
express a need, desire or longing (either verbally or in your heart), to
God for His consideration and action. Prayer also can include times of
quiet "listening" for God's answer. Prayer is personal one on
one time between you and your "daddy", God Almighty. Gal. 4:6
Fellowship:
- All of us need
encouraging, training, and just good friends. The writer of Hebrews must
have had that in mind when he told the Jewish church, "Let us not
give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another..." Heb. 10:24-25
- Finding a local bible
believing church is essential to surviving as a Christian. It's at church
where you find Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers, who
God gave to the church to grow us up in Jesus Christ. Eph. 4:11-13
Witnessing:
- One of the things that was "your part" to do when you became a
Christian was to confess Jesus Christ as Lord. Well, this isn't a onetime
event. Rom. 10:9-10
- Mark 8:28 tells us that
If we are ashamed and afraid to speak up in public about Jesus Christ then
Jesus will be ashamed to confess us before the Father!
- Ezekiel wrote that if we
fail to tell others that they are going to die in their sins, God will
require their blood at our hands! Ez 3:18-19
Water
Baptism:
- If you have not followed
the Lord's example and been water baptized, I strongly encourage you to do
so. Baptism is for believers after they have repented. The word Baptism
comes from the Greek word meaning to dip or immerse. Acts 2:38
